Curriculum Selection

At Crown Heights School (CHS), we recognize the importance of both local and international curricula, each offering unique advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, CHS integrates the Ghanaian curriculum with international and United States teaching methodologies and resources. This approach aims to cultivate graduates and leaders who are innovative, culturally aware, morally grounded, and academically proficient on a global scale. As the school progresses, and as deemed necessary, our leaders, team members, students, parents, and stakeholders will convene forums to consider the adoption of foreign curricula. CHS believes that this instructional approach will not only prepare students for the Ghanaian market but also facilitate their transition and academic pursuits in the United States and other countries.

Academics

Crown Heights School (CHS) is dedicated to leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other technological tools to enhance its curriculum delivery. We believe that AI has a valuable role to play in education, and therefore, both teachers and students receive education on AI and its application to support instructional practices and student-directed learning (SDL).

Early Childhood Education (2 - 5.4 years)

Crown Heights School’s early childhood program caters to children aged between 2 years and 5 years (and 4 months). We are committed to providing a nurturing home-like environment for our young learners. At CHS, we recognize the significance of the formative years, during which children experience accelerated learning. Therefore, we focus on fostering curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and innovation in our preschoolers. Additionally, we prioritize their moral and social development to ensure they become contributing members of society with a positive impact.

CHS follows the Ministry of Education’s (MoE) kindergarten curriculum for preschool education, supplemented by unique international methodologies. These approaches emphasize self-directed learning, hands-on experiences, and collaborative learning among preschoolers.

While the term “preschool” encompasses all children before the age of 5.5 years or entering first grade, those who turn four (4) by September 1 are categorized as prekindergarten, and those who turn five (5) by September 1 are categorized as kindergarten students.

Primary/Elementary, Grade 1 - 6
(5.5 - 11.4years)

We strive to provide a first-class home environment for your kids-our kids and students. CHS pays particular attention to all its students, especially in their formative years, where children are known to learn more quickly than in any year in their lives. CHS does not only instruct its children in their formative years to be curious, critical thinkers, creative, and innovative but also ensures they are morally and socially trained to fit into their society and have a profound influence. Primary school students are more aware of their environment, although still exploring. CHS continues to build them up on the foundation they had from preschool. Subjects are well-defined for the students. The subjects taught are Mathematics, Science, Information Technology (ICT), English, Social Studies, Spanish (under consideration), Art, and Physical Education.

CHS students are taught to partner with one another and collaborate to complete tasks. Learning concepts are mostly presented in the form of drama, music, and art.

Middle School/Junior High School, Grade 7 - 9
(11.5 - 14.4years)

We strive to provide a first-class home environment for your kids-our kids and students. CHS does not only teach its students to be curious, critical thinkers, creative, and innovative but also ensures they are morally and socially trained to fit into their society and have enormous influence. Students are taught Mathematics, General Science, English, Information Technology (ICT), R.M.E., Social Studies, Basic Design, and Technology.

In middle school, students must have at least 30 hours of community service before graduation. CHS approves institutions and centers and guides its students to perform those volunteer service hours. CHS has students helping their teachers and Afua Akyaa Preventive health care (AAPHC) to fulfill the volunteer hours. CHS is evaluating other institutions to approve them for the volunteer work.

Students have sessions/seminars once a month with the CEO/president and foreign dignitaries. Students are advised, exposed to international affairs, and informed of the opportunities they have as they begin their adolescent lives into adulthood. Other discussions include the fact that they can make their environment as beautiful and have strong systems as any country on the earth if they are determined to do so.
